About this site

Paul Abrahams

This site is the companion to my main site Learn Jazz Piano Online, where you can find my online video course dedicated to learning jazz piano. Each lesson comprises of a 30 minute online video, backing tracks, sheet music and a quiz.

The site you are now on replaces my old ‘Learn Jazz Piano’ forum. So, once again, I can answer your questions and we can discuss all things related to my online video lessons and eBook Learn Jazz Piano.

I will also be writing short articles and keeping you up to date with new lessons.

  1. Nice to see the forum is back, I hope to see lots of discussion which is very useful to beginners like me. Good luck and keep up the great work Paul.

  2. Thanks for posting this article. I’m decidedly frustrated with struggling to search out germane and sound commentary on this matter. Everybody now goes to the very far extremes to either drive home their viewpoint that either: everyone else in the planet is wrong, or two that everyone but them does not really understand the situation. Many thanks for your concise, relevant insight. Adauga Anunturi Gratuite Botosani

    • Thanks for that. Yes, you are so right. There is no right or wrong way. In the end we are all trying to make great music. Some can do it just by instinct but it can be useful to set up some guidelines. Modes, scales and extensions all have their place but it’s madness to put all the emphasis on just one way of approaching improvisation.

  3. I do believe all the ideas you have presented on your post. They are very convincing and will definitely work. Nonetheless, the posts are very brief for novices. May you please extend them a little from subsequent time? Thanks for the post.

    • Things you have in your favor1. You can read music2. you have developed fine motor coioaindtorn in both hands3. You know what chords arechallengesThey are very different to play. Get a decent beginner book and maybe a teacher, at least til you get the idea of how to play. Chords require a lot of left hand coioaindtorn. finger picking requires a lot of coioaindtorn with both hands doing very different things. But with a little effort you shouldn’t have any trouble learning. You are already ahead of a non musician trying to learn an instrument for the first time!

  4. Thank you for another essential article. Where else could anyone get that kind of information in such a complete way of writing? I have a presentation incoming week, and I am on the lookout for such information.
